When they are around 4″ SCL (straight carapace length) you will start noticing some sexual characteristics. The best and only way to definitely sex a RES is by the tail. Males store their penis in their tail and therefore, their tail is thicker and longer than the tail of a female.
There are secondary sexual characteristics. Males will have LONG claws and females will be bigger in overall size.

All previouse answers are correct, also you can feel and look at thier plastron (bottom of shell) on males it is concave and on femals its is flat
